Latest venue discoveries in London

I really like the big venue selection in London. I rarely visited a venue twice, except few exceptions, and had the opportunity to attend events in venues which are top tourist attraction during the day, before the space is transformed to welcome event guests. There are countless openings and renovations, and unique venues are opening their spaces for corporate events and offering something new and exclusive.

This year I had five venue discoveries in London and are worth sharing.

The Royal Exchange

Located just outside Bank DLR Station and in the heart of the financial centre, The Royal Exchange contains offices, shops and restaurants, and is where I attended the EWL Club breakfast event about “Closing the gap between event education and experience”. Our session took place in the Sauterelle room, overlooking the Grand Café and light breakfast was provided by D & D London.

EEF Venues Broadway House

Broadway House is part of EEF Group and is a conference venue just walking distance from the Westminster and Victoria tube stations and is where I held #EventPlannesTalk LIVE event about “the perfect pitch – what clients are looking for”. They have in-house catering and for the evening offered us an antipasti buffet with wide selection of healthy options. Walking from and to Westminster station attendees will have spectacular views over Big Ben and House of Parliament which is also not to be underestimated and adds to the whole experience.

Victory Services Club

Another very central venue but a hidden gem is the Victory Services Club, a private members club exclusive for retired and serving members of the armed forces. It’s very high end and bespoke establishment and just recently they did £1.5 million refurbishment of two rooms, El Alamein and Trafalgar Suite and held the “VSC Vineyard Event” to showcase the renovation. They have their own in-house catering and during the event we were treated for a wide selection of canapés, finger food, cone food, fork buffet, bowl food and desserts to pair with selected wines.

Victoria and Albert Museum

V & A Museum is one of London’s top tourist attractions in South Kensington and a must visit, and I’ve been there several times before as a tourist during the day. But this year I attended the International Corporate Event Awards (ICE Awards), recognising in-house event planners, and the museum was privately hired for us. The evening started at 7pm with drinks reception at John Madejski Garden, continued with dinner and awards ceremony at the Raphael Gallery and desserts buffet and bar were offered at the Dome. I was really impressed by this venue and if I have to pick one from this list of venues this will be my favourite. It was absolutely unique and exclusive to have this venue privately hired just for us.

The London Marriott Hotel, County Hall

The Westminster Suite – the presidential suite at the The London Marriott Hotel, County Hall was the venue of #EventPlannersTalk LIVE event about “The role of airlines, added value and the decision making process in MICE travel”. The hotel is located just walking distance from Westminster tube station and is overlooking the Big Ben and House of Parliament. If you want to host a formal event but still give it an informal, relaxed and exclusive ambiance and encourage networking opportunities between attendees this can be the right choice for you. For catering we had a selection of starters from their buffet menu.

Corporate away days at Four Seasons Hampshire

© The MICE Blog - event management blog

The pace of life style in London is so fast and hectic, there is so much going on, and therefore doing something which will take you away from your desk gives you bad conscious. But how about corporate away day in the beautiful English country side, where you can combine work and leisure? Sounds like a good excuse to me!

End of April Four Seasons Hampshire hosted Corporate Showcase and invited me to discover the property and incentive activities. After visiting their two London properties, in Park Lane and Canary Wharf and being a big fan of this brand, I was very happy to check out their famous country house estate. Inspired by the 18th century manor house, the building is a combination of British tradition and luxury surrounded by 500 acre estate.

The showcase started in the afternoon and on this occasion Four Seasons Hampshire has invited me to stay overnight. Without stress I made my way from London, taking a train from Waterloo and in less than one hour arrived at Fleet station, from where I jumped into a taxi and in 10 minutes was at the destination. After a very warm welcome and check-in I went out to get first glimpse of the impressive green surrounding before the showcase.

Catering

At the showcase we were offered a variety of freshly made canapés, oysters, cheeses and desserts. I personally like such food stations, because it gives you the freedom to choose what you want when you want it and chatting with the chef is a nice experience.

My friends from GC Couture were also present and did a cake decorating class. Since I did it twice already, I decided to skip but not the cakes of course and this time had the chance to try their “fruit without the bits” cake which seems to be very popular at the moment.

There was also a cocktail station, offering to taste local ale and a cocktail from locally produced Bombay Sapphire gin, raspberry puree, lemon juice and rosemary.

The breakfast on the second day was served at Seasons Restaurant and was lavish, including also a-la-carte menu. I didn’t eat too much to stay fit for the active program ahead!

After our outdoor activities on the second day, which I tell you more about shortly, we had healthy lunch at the spa restaurant, Café Santé.

Event and Conference facilities

The showcase took place at the Four Seasons Ballroom Pre-function area and the Ballroom, the largest function room which can accommodate up to 300 guests in theatre style. Pre-function area has direct access to the terrace and ideal for sunny weather!

Incentive and teambuilding

The hotel is surrounded by 500 acre estate and you have a variety of activities to choose from on-site, such as the Highwire Adventure, including 24 element high ropes course, a 13 metre ‘Power Fan’ free-fall parachute experience and a 235 metre zip wire ‘The Descent’ that enables you to fly out across the parkland. I did something very similar before and it is very fun when you are in a team, competing against other teams and members support each other at different tasks. It is a good exercise for teambuilding and improving group dynamics.

Something very unique Four Seasons Hampshire offers is Falconry. I absolutely loved this activity and can do it over and over again. In the introduction to falconry I learned about the different birds and could even feed them. These birds are fascinating. The whole experience takes about 15-20 minutes – so that can be done during a break or as part of other activities.

The team had more in store for us, archery and clay pigeon shooting, but I decided to relax and enjoy the peaceful moment on the terrace!

The showcase ended at 8pm and the good news is that the spa is open until 10pm, so that was my program for the rest of the day, before the early wake up the following day. My boyfriend joined me in the evening so the following day we can explore the area together.

In terms of activities there is something for everyone on-site, and there is plenty to do around, too.

Rooms

The hotel has 111 guest rooms and 22 suites. I greatly appreciated all the amenities, the large selection of mini bar beverages and they even have a Nespresso machine and cold milk.

Fitness and outdoors

The hotel gym has an extensive class offer including spinning, yoga, aerobics and a boot camp style outdoor fitness class. After breakfast we decided to do the outdoor class which was fantastic. We walked towards the pond and after a short warm up did exercises on the grass. It was exhausting at first but being outdoors is so energising and refreshing so you feel great! Why not considering it as a team building activity?

After this class we rented hotel bikes and cycled around the estate and along the canal. The scenery on our way was so peaceful and relaxing and the total trip took us about two hours and we came back to the hotel for lunch before heading back to London.

It was a rewarding experience and amazing how many activities you can do in a short period of time. I know that we, event planners, tend to sometimes fill every single hour with activity but if you choose Four Seasons I recommend leaving some free time for attendees to do what they want and just relax. Finishing the program early in the evening will let them enjoy the spa and fitness and starting late the following day will allow them to enjoy a long breakfast, have a fitness or spa session or participate in one of the classes.

As always, Four Seasons kept to their highest standards and it was very rewarding and relaxing get-away from London and I came back energised and motivated. Until next time!

Hotel Venues in Monte-Carlo

Hello eventprofs! I haven’t posted anything for one week as I was so busy with the Social Media Week London but I have lots to share with you now! On Thursday I was on a speakers panel at Google Campus together with Annie Byrne from Exhibition News, Kim Benjamin from Event magazine and Hellen Beveridge from Who’s Who in Events and Pure Rocket Science. The event was about content marketing and how to generate and leverage engaging event content and blogging and it was a big honour to be invited as an event blogger. Google Campus is one of my favourite venues in London as it is the ‘home’ for London entrepreneurs and tech scene. We had only one hour for Q & A that came from the audience. Event organisers Pickevent partnered up with sli.do, a Q & A platform for live events where the audience can ask live questions and rest of the audience vote for which questions they want to be answered first. It worked out so well and the audience asked very good questions! I try to get the questions from Sli.do and integrate them in the next #EventBlogChat as one hour was definitely not enough!

One of the topics discussed was how to interact with your audience at events. As opposed to other panellist, being a blogger I have the advantage that I can share instantaneously what I want from the event on any of my platforms. I also mentioned that while I can’t write long blog articles every day, I try to interact with my readers and communicate on Facebook and Instagram with text and images. I call it micro, or live blogging where I communicate bits of information about a venue, restaurant, talk or exhibition I’m at or just attended. Twitter is another powerful platform to engage and communicate with my readers but because it has a 140 characters limit I prefer to use it for sharing links and chats.

I still have more venues from Monaco to share with you. In my previous posts I hope I took you on a nice journey that gave you some inspiration and fresh ideas, for your business or for leisure.

This time I want to share with you two more hotel venues. These hotels have fantastic conference facilities, very modern and central.

Le Méridien Beach Plaza

Le Méridien Beach Plaza is a 4-Star hotel and ideal for different types of events of different sizes such as weddings, product launches, cocktails, ceremonies, conferences and this is the only hotel in Monte Carlo that has its own private beach!

The conference centre of the hotel, the Sea Club, was renovated three years ago and has vast facilities over its five floors and 3,000 m2 to accommodate up to 2,000 people across a selection of 14 modular meeting rooms. The terraces, the swimming pool and the beach can be also set up for events of both corporate and private nature.

Le Méridien Beach Plaza recognises that the business travellers today need to maintain their work-life-balance and offers an innovative conference package that includes an entry to the fitness centre, which can be swapped with cocktails at the bar!

Also to make corporate events more fun and creative, Le Méridien offers ‘creative meetings’ where the attendees can engage in creating their own coffee drinks or cocktails or composing new macaron flavours, wine tasting and cooking classes.

Unfortunately I couldn’t see most of the conference facilities because there was an event on the day, but I had the pleasure to try the Muse Restaurant which is open from June to September. Comfy sofas in the shadow, sea view, fresh juices, was perfect! If I can give you one insider tip, you have to try the Eclairs dessert which is unique to the hotel.

Last but not least, the hotel has 403 rooms and suites and can be privatised on demand.

Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo

Located in the heart of Monte Carlo, just few minutes’ walk from the Casino it’s easy to pass by without noticing. But those who know the place know that it stands for luxury and elegance. The glamourous 5-Start Hotel Metropole offers 6 conference rooms and can accommodate up to 120 guests for lunch/ dinner and 160 guests for a cocktail in their biggest room, Salon Méditerranée.

The Japanese restaurant Yoshi (1 Michelin star) has a small outside terrace which is converted into hospitality suite during the Formula 1 race.

Lastly, the hotel has 133 bedrooms including 64 suites.

Possibility to organise events by the pool

That’s all for now dear eventprofs, I hope you enjoyed this virtual journey to discover MICE in Monaco and I hope you were inspired, as much as I did from this wonderful destination. Please share with me what venues you liked the most and what type of events would you like to host (or hosted) in Monaco. One thing I know for sure, I will come back 🙂

Four Seasons at Canary Wharf Welcomed Event Planners for UK Collection Summer Showcase

Four Seasons is one of my favourite hotel brands. I love the fact that they know how to communicate with the digital savvy traveller on social media and offer modern luxury, discrete in a way, expressed in their attentive customer service and high service and product quality.

When I was invited to attend the Four Seasons UK Collection Summer Showcase I eagerly reserved the date. I’m already familiar with Four Seasons at Park Lane where I was just two weeks ago for the monthly Event Marketing Association (EMA) event so was happy to get familiar with the second London property in Canary Wharf. They have only three in the UK, the third being in Hampshire.

The showcase started at noon with Italian lunch by Quadrato Restaurant and Bar. It was a buffet style lunch with appetizers, homemade pasta and light desserts, all except of the desserts freshly made in front of us.

One hour to eat and chat with fellow event planners and it was time to attend the first floral workshop by Jens Jakobsen from Floral Construction. Jens took us step by step how to make beautiful roses bouquet. Never before I thought of attending such workshop and I was amazed by the detail and dedication of Jens. Summer, being also a wedding season, is just the perfect time for such workshop. Now when writing this post I look at these beautiful flowers and I think it’s the best souvenir I ever had from an event! Also maybe because I made it?

Back to the exhibition hall, I finally made a tour to get familiar with the presenters. Local partners including London City Airport, AirPortr, GC Couture, Thames Clippers, Moleskine, excel, Jens Jakobsen, visit Greenwich and two other Four Seasons properties,  London Park Lane and Hampshire. I chatted with hotel representatives and networked with other event planners before it was time to go to the second workshop, cake decoration by GC Couture. If you follow my social media you know that I’m an avid baker and indeed I always wanted to know the art of cake decoration. Thank you Four Seasons for fulfilling this wish 🙂 We learned the basics how to make roses and other eatable décor.  The level of interest and concentration of the participants was so high no-one talked while working! Everyone did very well and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who learned new skills on the day!

Back from the workshop I took a short hotel tour before I had to leave to watch France vs. Germany World Cup match. Unfortunately I missed the cocktail class but sure it was as amazing as the two previous ones!

While I had high expectations, the event absolutely exceeded them and that was the most memorable venue showcase I had so far. Now, after getting familiar with Four Seasons at Park Lane and Canary Wharf I can’t wait to have the occasion to visit Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire.
